EDUARD SHAGEYEV

Born in 1944 in Omsk. Finished the Sverdlovsk Art School in 1965. Graduated from the Moscow Higher Arts and Crafts School (former Stroganov School) in 1971.
Shageyev has participated in numerous zonal, republican, national and international exhibitions where he won a number of diplomas and prizes. Quite a few works by the artist have been bought by museums and galleries in Moscow and other Russian cities and by a number of foreign museums.

The emergence of a new, surrealistic trend in Shageyev's art dates back approximately to the late 1970s and early 1980s and the upswing of his creative energies coincided with the beginning of perestroika. Naturally, this had a strong effect on the orientation, forms and methods of the artist's creative work and on his philosophic interpretation of the processes and changes going on in society.

Eduard Shageyev looks for the subjects of his work in religion, historical events, scenes of everyday life, human relationships, and man's attitude to the surrounding world within the Man-Earth-Universe system. Of particular importance to him are the content, the idea, the problem, the psychological analysis of a situation, and a deep insight into natural and social phenomena. All these are embodied in the images created by the artist and in specific symbols peculiar to Shageyev alone.
